Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?
For In-Call therapy, your massage or bodywork session will take place at MassageLuXe in Manchester, MO. You will lie on a heated table especially designed for your comfort.
For Out-Call therapy, I bring a professional table and music to your location.
Is my information released to anyone?
Your personal information including your name, address, phone number, e-mail address(es), and other information related to your personal identification, information related to your health, any condition(s), type of massage, or any verbal discussion during your session are kept confidential and not released except by your express written approval for release of information.
Do I have to complete the Health Form in order to get a massage?
If I am coming to you, I DO NOT require an intake/health form but will go over some verbal questions with you prior to the Session start.
If you are seeing me at MassageLuXe, all information you disclose is kept private and confidential but is an absolute requirement. The questions asked provide important information that may influence about the type of massage you receive and areas worked. And while you're under my care, I must have your identification information - both in case of an emergency and to comply with my Insurance requirements. If you're unwilling to provide the required information, please be considerate by canceling your appointment.
Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed.
You will be properly draped during the session with a sheet or a sheet & blanket. Or, you may have no draping as long as you are wearing underwear (to cover the sexual organs).
For certain techniques or types of bodywork, you may be asked to wear some clothing that will allow me to work more easily with you without having to be concerned with draping (such as Rolfing).
Rolfing is performed in your underwear. For men, briefs are best. A second choice that would work are boxer briefs. For women, a bra and underwear are best. A second choice is a sport's bra, preferable with the least amount of straps. However, if you have a desire to be clothed during the session, please inform me so that appropriate techniques may be used to meet your needs.
Will you be present when I disrobe?
I will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet.
Will I be covered during the session?
If wearing underwear, you will not normally be draped unless you need coverage for warmth or if you simply prefer. If nude, you will be properly draped to ensure that you remain warm and comfortable.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, shoulders, arms, glutes, hamstrings, calves, feet, quads, forearms, hands, and neck. I will work on abs, pecs, and adductors by request. Of course, based on your need and wishes, specific areas of concern may receive all or most of any session and specific areas mentioned above may be completely avoided or untouched to meet your request.
Are there different kinds of massage and bodywork?
There are numerous types of massage and bodywork; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, application of pressure to specific points, and more. We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you.
What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask me any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. I will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Most people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.
For best results, you will stay relaxed and allow me to move your limbs, head, and neck as needed. If I need your help, I will communicate that request to you. Otherwise, just relax and enjoy!
Rolfing, on the other hand, is a participatory session, including breath work, and isolation of joint movement, and various body positions. You will also be assessed, statically (standing), and in movement (walking, knee-bends, scapula movement), etc.
How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.
When receiving deep tissue massage, it is normal to feel sore the first day or two after the massage. The soreness is similar to that when working out - except you will have more mobility in your body.
What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
You should not have any alcohol in your system. And, you should notify me if you are taking anything that blocks pain.
Outbreaks of the skin should be avoided. Unusual bruising, certain surgeries/procedures, and other conditions (such as uncontrolled high-blood pressure) may indicate massage or bodywork is contraindicated.
